this is huge!

Robbie Rogers, who is a professional soccer player (or was until today as well), came out as gay. He came out via his blog and also announcing his retirement from the game. This is crazy because this guy is actually known within the American soccer community, unlike David Testo (no offense to him though). Robbie has 11 caps for the US national team and played over in England until getting release this past transfer window in January. Though MLS recently acquired his rights which would allow him to play in MLS again, he said his is going to take time away from the game which is kind of a bummer.

I've always enjoyed watching him play when he played in the MLS and for the national team. I think he has the talent to be a great player for the US but I guess the pressure he has been under has caused him to be burned out, which is understandable.

His blog isn't loading for some reason so here is the article i read:

EDIT:

here is his post link that is working now...

  1. Awesome! He's one of those brave athletes who's coming out slowly helps breaking down the gay taboo in sports. Too bad it's only after retiring though, like many others... but still: respect!

  4. Socrkid: When I saw the news during lunch break at work, my first thought was "Socrkid is going to post something on his blog" and here it is. You have another role model to consider and soon, you are going to be having a similar impact, I can feel it.
